Russell A. Garman

Russell Garman’s practice focuses on the development and management of global patent portfolios for our clients, as well as the generation and implementation of strategies for protecting products throughout their life cycle.

Russell has extensive experience in counseling clients on the generation and preservation of strong and diverse patent protection for their products. He is accustomed to working with clients from early research through the development of the product and beyond, ensuring that at each stage, the intellectual property value of their innovations is secured. To this end, Russell is adept in all facets of evaluating, procuring, and maintaining patents, including patentability, non-infringement, and patent landscape analyses; preparation of patent applications; patent prosecution and appellate practice; and proceedings after grant, such as Post-Grant and Inter Partes Reviews, Ex Parte Re-examination, and Supplemental Examination.

In addition, Russell is well-versed in working with clients to develop later-stage patent strategies and to align their intellectual property assets with their immediate and long-term business objectives. This includes assessing the patentability of next-generation products; coordinating the clients’ patent protection with their regulatory strategies; and evaluating licensing, acquisition, and collaboration arrangements from an intellectual property perspective.

With a scientific background in the multidisciplinary field of biomedical engineering, Russell provides patent counseling on a variety of life science technologies, particularly in the areas of pharmaceutics, gene therapy, recombinant cell and protein therapy, immunotherapy, pharmaceutical formulations, pharmaceutical and veterinary vaccines, transgenic animal and plant technology, tissue-engineering, medical devices and implants, and food and nutritional compositions.
